MONEY SAVING TIPS AND GUIDE:
Think about what your priorities are.
Your budget will also help decide the size of your guest list, location, menu, and formality of the wedding.
Avoid hiring a wedding planner and do it yourself. Ask for help from family and friends.
Limit your guest list.
Pick an off date, time, and month.
It's less expensive if you book your event on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon rather than the evening. Friday night can still be cheaper. You can also have a morning wedding followed by a brunch.
Have your reception earlier in the day so you don't have to provide your guests with dinner.
Choose a location that come with everything you need for your event and book short term.
Have a private affair for your closest family and friends.
Design your own invitations, rsvp cards, programs, place cards, dinner menu, and thank you notes on your computer at home. Take a copy of the wedding program to your local copy center and make copies. Copy them on the paper color of your choice.
Shop sales, clearance, closeouts, thrift stores, on-line auctions, consignment shops or borrow your wedding attire. Try looking at bridesmaid dresses, they come in white or choose the color of your wedding.
Shop around and compare prices, always get three or more quotes. Do not tell supplier how much you are willing to spend. If they want your business they will accommodate you on your budget.
Don't be afraid to neogtiate prices. Know exactly what is included from your supplier and always get quotes and contracts in writing.
Rent, borrow or make your own decorations.
Scale back on flowers. Choose a location that has a natural setting.
Choose a location that has a lot of plants and trees. It helps fill empty spaces and gives the look of already being decorated. It also saves on your flower bill. String lights through the plants for a romantic feel.
Plan your event around a holiday. Most locations you choose from will already be decorated for the holiday.
Avoid planning your wedding on a religious holiday.
Avoid a formal wedding.
If you choose to have a formal wedding, scale back on the guest list. The less people invited, the more you can upgrade your event.
Make your own cake. Have a friend or family member make it as your wedding gift from them.
Purchase your wedding cake from a grocery store. They are cheaper than a baker.
Avoid a dessert buffet and save you money. Use what your wedding cake was meant for, dessert!
Tailor the menu.
Have a reception of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres rather than a full meal.
Serve beer, wine, and champagne punch instead of having a full cocktail bar. If your really on a budget or don't want alcohol served at your reception, set up a non alcoholic drink bar.
Provid coffee, tea, water, punch and soft drinks for your guests. Set up a cash bar for those guests who want to drink cocktails.
Make your own wedding favors.
Make your own music CD's.
If you want formal photos at your wedding but don't have the budget for it, hire a photographer for the ceremony only. Ask friends and family to volunteer as photographers for casual photos at your reception.
